Elijah Slocum Bedroom

In medieval times the bed was perhaps the most important piece of furniture in the home, but was more identifiable as a use of textiles rather than a wood structure. The need for warmth was a prime consideration in the design of beds to the time of modern conveniences.

Beds fashioned for the well-to-do always included a tester, a frame to support textiles, that provided warmth and privacy. However, the headboard was considered then as now, the most important feature of the bed. Surviving examples of those early periods demonstrate exemplary carving, with deep bas-relief carving of soldiers, horsemen, crests, initials and wonderfully repetitive designs.

Made to client's specifications, we are proud to make furniture upon which our client will spend one-third of their hours!
