In the late 18th Century, Europeans became enamored with all manner of Oriental imports and designs. English porcelain producers took notice.

Mason, an importer, brilliantly decided to make his own, opening a ceramics producing factory featuring Asian influenced designs in 1796. Thence began the story that would make Mason’s family name one of the most important in the history of English ceramics and his wares among the most highly collected.

This is a wonderful and scarce ca. 1850 Mason’s compote, hand-decorated over a transfer pattern, with deep rich colors and some gilt adornment.

In good antique condition with no chips, no cracks and no repairs. .
