An early copper lid made by a rural ironsmith, displaying an unusual shaped handle.  Useful and highly unusual as a display.

Lids and pans with iron handles were meant for the actual cooking in the kitchen and not for serving in the dining room. A flat lid was used because it could fit on top of any number of different sized pots.

We love antique copper pans and use them exclusively in our home. Copper conducts heat quickly and evenly with no hot spots on the bottom of the pan, allowing for greater control because the pans heat up faster, then cool down faster when taken from the heat. Copper pots are the prize of a chef’s kitchen.
